Is it too late??

I have been intrigued by a company called Accenture. They are a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, committed to delivering innovation.

They work with all sorts of industries and believe that many companies wait too long to attempt transformations. They believe most companies only do so when the signs of trouble have become obvious and by that time it is too late.

They state that high performers, by contrast, change before they must, knowing that the best way to transform is from a position of strength.

I don’t think anything could sum up better the past few years at Floyd. We waited too long to make needed changes and we are now paying a heavy price. Our position of strength has collapsed and we are now in survival mode. The administration missed many opportunities for collaborative efforts with physicians and are now competing directly with many of them.

The new Chairman has instituted some changes, but there are still many necessary changes still needed and hopefully they will not be too late!

Some of the changes include increased accountability, 2 new subcommittees of the Board to specifically look at finances and quality of care issues, more open discussion, and private meetings with only Board members and without the CEO.

It does appear that the CEO is beginning to withhold information from the Board once again as has been seen by not providing financial data at the last meeting and along with todays post.

It will be interesting to see how the new Chairman responds to this.

I recently had a reason to go to Norton Healthcare's website (www.nortonhealthcare.com). If you click on the "About Us" link, the first thing you will see is a link for their financial statements.

I have never seen a financial statement for Floyd, nor do I know how to go about getting one. Kinda strange.

What fun it must be to know that there is a revenue/expense gap that must be closed, to have no responsibility for figuring out how to do it, and to have the freedom to criticize the measures taken to solve it.

What fun it must be to send out NON itemized bills to patients. Sending patients to credit agency without ever sending them an original bill?

Forget the styrofoam cups and bottled water. Clean house in underperforming departments!!

Underperforming schmunderperforming. Let's use candles and save on electricity. OOH! Man-powered generators! That's it. We'll have to pay a little extra up front for the stationary bikes, but it'll work itself out.
