Rehab Floor Closing

After months of speculation, worry, and emotions, the administration finally made the recommendation to the Board to close the rehab unit at Floyd Memorial Hospital. Many of the employees had already left because of the uncertainty and there was just a skeleton crew remaining. It eventually became a financial decision as they could not justify the ongoing losses in the face of the other financial problems. So even though it added non-monetary value for patients and physicians, it needed to close to help solve the other fiscal problems facing Floyd.

There will be mixed emotions but at least having a final decision gives the remaining employees some closure and will allow them to move forward.

It is the intent of Administration that Floyd will do everything possible to find positions within the hospital or at Southern Indiana Rehab so these employees can maintain their seniority and benefits.

I am sorry, to see it close. I worked on this unit from the beginning till I left the hospital in l998. Made alot of good friendships. I hope the remaining employees fine good jobs. They should use the beds now for more med/surg so that the hospital doesn't need to be on conversion as much. GOOD LUCK ALL EMPLOYEES OF THE SKILLED NURSING STAFF I WILL MISS YOU!

Hey HB,

You are much too kind. You could decimate these naysayers by saying “I told you so!”.

You posted on at least two occasions over the past couple of years that this was one of the things that needed to be done to help with the financial problem. You also stated you didn’t believe any of these things would happen until the financials forced them into action.

You were right all along. How many of your other predictions are also on target? We know they are now looking at purchasing issues as well as the billing processes. These also were suggested by you. You commented the CEO and CFO needed to go. Half of this has occurred and we can only hope your prediction on the other comes true.

It is a sad situation when those in power refuse to address the real problems. It reflects poorly on those previous Board members who sat back and allowed it to happen.

Shame on all of them.

HB...you MUST know that there's more to the story than this, and I think it's pretty shady for you to present the situation in this light. Very manipulative. I just lost a sizeable chunk of respect for you.

HB presented both viewpoints, that doesn't seem manipulative. All the money losing services lines should go.

I think its a shame that the rehab unit is shutting down. The staff is excellent and will be dearly missed. I wish them luck in the future.

No, that's not what I was talking about. Shall we get over ourselves for a moment and consider that the world does NOT revolve around FMH?

It's actually very good timing...if you know anything about it. It's good for Floyd and good for SIRH. It is not, however, all about Floyd's finances. There's a little more to it than that.

How much money is the Joslin Center making? If the board is going to look at all the non-profit areas in the hospital.Who's protcting the Joslin Center?Who is the owner of Boise?Didn't he start at Informations Systems?I'm sure when you look at Mcckesson that Boise had to bid lower.A former manager owns Boise company.I'm sure it 's not a conflict of interest.Where do you think Jack M.is going to work?NO games going on here!!! The private party at the Rock Wall may tell the tale.

Seems to be that some people "know" something but are reluctant to clearly state what it is that they know.

Quit dancing. Speak up or shut up.

Its old news the Joslin Center doesn't produce revenue but a needed service - world renound. As for Jack McCloskey, are you implying he was involved in the contract from Boise? I am confused. I thought he was retiring?

Anony 12:29 - retiring/resignation/termination is the same for most VP's/Directors or at least the trend from FMHHS as of late. The only difference with Jack's is he is still on board. For the sake of Floyd detrimental due to the fact he could change integrity of the hospital computer system.

SPEAKING OF MONEY LOSERS - WHAT ABOUT THE OPEN HEART PROGRAM THAT MOST OF THE SURGEONS WERE OPPOSED TO. HOW MANY STAFF ARE STANDING AROUND TO DO 1 OR 2 HEARTS A WEEK.
