Business First reports on new Hospital

According to Business First Construction finally set to start on physician-owned hospital - Business First of Louisville: the hospital in Clarksville is underway and will be completed sometime next year.

It has come at a fairly high price with legal issues that delayed the start. There were many reasons for the legal issues, but some feel it was partly done as a measure to delay the opening and allow Floyd’s Heart program to get up and running.

Will the delay ultimately hurt the new hospital or did it help? It did help convince the owners to use the Clark County location over the Floyd County one. This I think will ultimately pay off. The location off veterans parkway is a huge growth area and the hospital and its developments will bring some balance to the mostly retail area.

At this point, in little more than a year, there will be more competition to both Clark and Floyd. Physicians and patients will have another option for their medical care and with the continued diversion problems at Floyd; it will be a welcome change for many.

Yes, that's right, Dr. E, a "welcome change for many."
That new hospital combined with the new surgical center the Floyd/Clark surgeons are building will surely bring "more competition to both Clark and Floyd."

But what kind of changes will it bring to the 1500+ employees of both institutions?

What will it do to the what might be one of both county's largest employers?

somehow i doubt the new hospital will take very many "self payers" **cough cough no payers**. or birth very many anchor babies. load 'em up on the county hospitals which will deal by cutting workers with the lip service that it won't impact patient care **cough cough liars** and stressed out nurses, etc. will look for calmer, less stressful fields like disarming IEDs in Iraq.

One physician who no longer goes to Floyd has become so jaded against the hospital, it has affected and clouded his medical judgement. I've had two family members who have ended up in the emergency room and admitted (one had surgery) after going to his office within 1 day of being seen in his office. I don't imagine if you stopped breathing he would send you to Floyd. His hatred of the hospital eclipses any medical sense he may have once had. So he's an investor in the new hospital? Big deal. His medical credibility is nil.
