Clark wins award

Clark Memorial got rated as one of the better places to work as reported in the tribune last week. The News and Tribune - Clark Memorial named among Indiana's best employers

Does this say anything about the current situation at Floyd or are these rewards meaningless and just used as marketing ploys? As most of you remember, Floyd recieved this same award last year.

The Chamber of Commerce says they determine this ranking based on employer reports and comprehensive employee surveys. Employees do not recall filling out a survey for the Chamber of Commerce.

The article stated;

“Businesses named one of the best places to work were recognized for creating positive work environments in which employees feel valued,” said Martin Padgett, Clark Memorial President and CEO, in a news release from the hospital. “At Clark Memorial, we feel like we have created such an environment for our 1,400 team members and more than 500 physicians.”

Do you think with the current financial situation, cuts and possible layoffs that Floyd will win this award anytime again soon, or are these awards just randomly handed out for marketing purposes?

For the life of me, I can't figure out why any intelligent, loyal employee of Floyd Memorial would ever consider you a friend of the hospital. You go out of your way to discover (or create) negative impressions of FMH instead of being a true advocate and supporter of the hospital.

You could take some lessons from Mr. Miles about how to project a positive, professional attitude instead of constantly finding something wrong with the hospital. You are very destructive to the public perception of a very good hospital and you do great damage to the morale and motivation of employees who work their tails off to create an excellent environment for patient care.

You are the one that is not a friend of the hospital. Look back at HB's comments from a year ago.

If people listened to the warnings back then, we wouldn't be here now.

The truth is hard to swallow sometimes, but ignoring it doesn't make it any better.

Sugar coating it like many continue to do just makes the situation worse and prolongs the agony.

Fire the CEO and let's move this organization forward.

OK, Concerned Employee. Explain how HB's "piling on" is helping anything. Is he helping the new board and its chairman by creating additional problems for them while they try to work through this financial issue? Is he helping employees by painting the darkest picture he can instead of projecting a "can-do" "we'll get out of this" attitude? Is he helping the community by falsely scaring them into thinking that their county hospital is not a good and safe place?

Just how is turning a story about recognition for Clark Memorial into an opportunity to criticize Floyd making things better?

The world is full of negative complainers. There are way too few people who step up and make themselves part of the solution instead of adding to the problem.

Who would want to work at Floyd with any of you? For your hospital to be in such a mess, you sure have a lot of experts who are more than willing to share their opinion...

The most dangerous of all falsehoods is a slightly distorted truth.

There are many who actually have a plan on how to fix the problems. HB is just one of them.

You on the other hand can only continually critisize anyone who thinks independently.

You actually sound a lot like one of the Board members who can only say "yes Bryant" I agree.

That is the problem that has gotten us into this mess.

HB has a plan? I wonder what it is--other than getting rid of the current CEO. And who are all these other people who have a plan?? Are they in a position to know what is needed throughout the hospital, what the trade-offs will be? Are they experienced in running a large, complicated organization...or are they like Concerned Employee who seems to think that if the CEO were only gone, days would be sunny, staffing would be perfect and reimbursements would provide milk and honey for everyone.

As John Kerry was told during one of the presidential debates: "A litany of complaints is not a program."

And as with John Kerry, you have no plan, no original ideas, no scruples, and change your mind as often as the wind shifts directions.

In one word, pathetic.

It is no wonder we have declined to this point.

Your credentials to know any of this information is what???

"It is no wonder we have declined to this point."

Concerned employee, "we" have not declined. HB began the conversation at this level.

As I read the comments, I can only wonder if anonymous really cares about our facility. I agree with concerned employee there needs to be some changes and yes if it has to start at the top so be it. I am satisfied that the anonymous writer has never been affiliated with the hospital in any way. It is those of us who have worked so hard to provide the best in care and also have a pleasant secure working environment whose comments really matter as we have been part of the solution some of us for many years. Dr.Dan is a breathe of fresh air when we need it and I for one do appreciate him and his efforts. I am still hoping for a change - preferably at the top.

Ok,Dan.I've asked you one question so far.Much to my delightyou answered it.My second question on your blog is this. When all the dust settles, will you,the board, review all the screw ups? By that I'm asking admin,Director's,that continued to purchase items that the budgetwas not ready to purchase these supplies.Ralph is gone and from I can tell NO one is trying to stop the spending that will continue until some outside company comes in and says WhY? Why do we continue to spend on many items that are not needed.I was in many meetings where Ralph said NO! Then all they would have to do is go to their VP and it would get signed off on.Why have a finacial officer when he coulden't control what nursing and other areas went to the Senior VP and was able to purchase what ever they wanted?

I think the administration needs to take more weekend "think tank" retreats or excursions to the boat.

People need to get off their high horses and quit blamming issues on Dr. Dan. At least he has the guts to face the issues. To those at Clark Memorial, congratuations on the honor.

That's one of the problems at Floyd. No one in senior leadership wants to be the heavy and say no. This is above all, a business.
