Minimizing falls

A hospital in Wisconsin has taken the drive-thru craze of fast food, pharmacies, and other industries and begun an innovative way to help minimize the risk of falls at their hospital.

Slips and falls inside and outside of most hospitals are frequent causes preventable injuries and hospitals are always looking for ways to minimize the risks.

Ripon Medical Center started a drive-through blood draw. The hospital utilizes their emergency shelter as the stop for the blood draw. Patients are scheduled for arrival at a certain time and basically get registered and have their blood drawn without ever having to leave their automobiles.

It has increased satisfaction and decreased the risk of falls. The hospital accepted donations as well which assisted them in purchasing a mobile cart.

It has been great for patients with disabilities and older patients who have difficulty walking the usually long distances into and around the hospitals.

Another unique and innovative service provided by employees thinking “outside the box”.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Many of you are waiting for Dr. Dan to explain his strange and inaccurate report yesterday ("The grand jury is preparing for the trial and will likely be looking for ways to convince the jury that what they did was more humane.”) Unfortunately, just after posting this morning’s blog entry, Dr. Dan’s family discovered him in his den with his head shaved and muttering incoherently. After determining that he was not “speaking in tongues” family members wrapped him in warm blankets and managed to get some soothing decaffeinated tea in him. He seems to be calm now and no decision has been made to have him admitted to a “rest” facility.

My only question is whether its a good idea to draw blood, which has a tendency to make people dizzy and/or feel faint, then send them off in their cars! Who is there to help if they begin feeling dizzy while driving 55 mph?

That aside, its a very intersting idea from an "ease of service" perspective. I'd be hard pressed to drive past such an event without donating (assuming anyone can find any blood in this cold & heartless body of mine - I'll save the anony. posters the effort of making the joke).

On an unrelated note, the "editor's note" above is the dumbest thing I've ever read. I shouldnt even comment on it, as its so pathetic. It does, however, cause me to question my previous thoughts to HB that he should still allow anonymous postings for the integrity of this site, when integrity is so clearly missing from many of the idiots posting anonymously. Perhaps the loss of such fools wouldnt be such a bad thing.

It is sad that the same individuals continually attack me personally rather than deal with the issues.

I post these blogs early in the morning and my verbage may not always be grammatically correct which I will try harder on correcting.

The major points and issues are usually pretty clear for the average reader.

I have thick skin and will continue to allow the comments.

Hey, Lawguy, I often admire your comments, but I am surprised that you said: ", the "the editor's note" above is the dumbest thing I've ever read."

OK, maybe it isn't in the best of taste, but the dumbest thing you have ever read? Even on this blog?? I don't think it is even close to some of HB's comments on evolutionary theory. I laughed out loud when I read those.

HB, this is clearly a conspiracy to cause an increase in auto accidents, thus drumming up more business for the hospital. Duh, that was an easy one.

Hey Lawguy, do you think this is funny: "On an unrelated note, the 'editor's note' above is the dumbest thing I've ever read. I shouldnt even comment on it, as its so pathetic."

I believe this is something akin to the voicemail message I once received from a caller who said, "No, I will not leave you a voicemail message."

HB,

Thick skin and HARD HEAD!! I know, I know, look in a mirror.

I also agree with Lawguy. My own attempts at humor may not always be successful but are hopefully not as tasteless as the crap above. Not to mention cowardly.

You guys are wound too tightly. I hought "editor's" comments were an amusing attempt to poke some holes in HB's pomposity.

As in most such cases, what humor there is in the "editor's note" is considerably lessened by the author's anonymity.

I heard the tea wasn't decaffeinated, that they tackled him with a tarp--not blankets--and that the "rest" facility wouldn't accept him because of his "behaviors." I know for a fact that his mutterings were later deciphered as actually being, "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and dog-on it, people like me." Well, that's what I heard anyway, and I'm pretty sure it's probably true.

We need to get to the bottom of this.
