Back home

It is nice to be home and have the feeling that what we have been doing on this blog has been a benefit. On my morning rounds Monday, I had 4 different employees from 3 different departments approach me and tell me how much they appreciated the efforts at educating and continuing to try and keep certain people in administration held accountable. In addition, I also had several emails from community members lending their support.

There continues to be more and more unrest and uncertainty as staff is being cut and positions are being held or eliminated. The current staff is being asked to do more with less but continually seeing the administration ignoring their concerns. The monthly financials continue to decline and the Board does not appear to be addressing the concerns other than watching the trends.

In addition, I was informed that certain computers have this website blocked from being accessed at Floyd Memorial. Certain areas evidently find this website objectionable because it continually educates and points out some very disturbing trends and issues.

Employees in these areas just make it a habit of reading the blog from home either before or after work. Blocking access is adding fuel to the fire and makes the administration appear even more culpable.

If employees have scheduled breaks and the ability to watch the news, read newspapers or listen to the radio, then why are they restricted from accessing this website? Who should determine what can be read and what cannot be read on the employees own time?

What are the fears of posting this information and allowing others to comment?

I don't know much about the website being block at Floyd.I never have time at work to read your website.I log on when I get home in the evening.Blocking the website shows that they don't want us reading what you write. You speak the truth and Floyd doesn't want the staff to know what is going on.I love reading what you post. You keep up the great work in informing the us.The directors sure don't inform the staff the "REAL" issues at Floyd.

Do you plan to begin offering English translations of your supporters comments?

HB,
You asked:
"Who should determine what can be read and what cannot be read on the employees own time?"

Would you care to provide your own answer?

We have an internet use policy and the only restrictions we have is pornography or illegal activities.

Our employees can shop, read, blog or chat during their breaks and lunch hour.

They are told that all internet use is monitored, and all sign the policy.

Thanks.

Oh, by the way, who makes the definition of pornography? You knew that question was coming!

I know this is a different path in some respects but there are some similarities. If the hospital has blocked your site, that action is childish but probably not illegal.

I was at Floyd Memorial over the weekend visiting a friend and noticed how quiet it was. I saw a lot of empty rooms and very few staff. In fact I only saw a couple of workers in his area. Floyd must be hurting real bad. What has happened to our hospital in New Albany. It looks like it's going under fast.

Thank you HB for standing behind all of the staff at FMHHS. It's nice to know someone still believes in and cares about the dedicated staff. Unfortunately I could not take it anymore and resigned a couple weeks ago. I heard that, despite what the Tribune said, the hospital is having more problems keeping people and actually sent staff home a few days ago and called some to not come in. I have talked with 3 other hospitals in the area and things don't appear nearly as bad as it does at Floyd. They're still getting bonuses and incentives for working extra if needed. The politicians, along with hospital administration and it's trustees, really don't care about the staff's feelings any longer. Amazingly, I think one of the trustees is running for a county office this year.

I too was at the hospital visiting and after getting off the main street elevator and walking down the hall and exiting at the emergency door, I only encountered one person it was so quite you could hear a pin drop. The person I saw was an employee and she too commented how quite it was. This was at the end of visiting hours. There must be a shortage of patients as I also saw many empty beds, this was in the OLD area of the hospital. It made me wonder if the OLD part of the hospital has no patients, what is going on in the NEW wing. Also, as before the parking situtaton is pitiful, most don't know they have free parking as they see people stop to let people out and to pick-up. Granted their was people standing to park cars. But note I said standing, not parking. So people were going around in circles looking for parking spaces. Now some will say it is all free, but let everyone use it and see what happens. The employees will have to drive in circles too, in order to park cars. There are a lot of elderly people in the hospital and one must remember that they usually have elderly visitors. Try going in the Main entrance and making your way over to the OLD part of the hospital and see what you have to do. Its a long way for young people. The new area is pretty but it is not user friendly.

Believe it or not hospitals have days when it is not that busy. Weekends tend to be less busy than the rest of the week, with the exception of Sundays for some reason. Yes things are getting worse at Floyd, but a quiet period sometimes will mean nothing.

The new section is not doing much better. Not nearly at full capacity cause temporary shut downs of complete "pods".
