Obama's ongoing decision failures

Obama's true character shown brightly yesterday.

When the country is in a financial crisis that could potentially destroy the markets and millions of everyday American's investments, Obama could not put aside his personal interests in his own campaigning and return to Congress to do his job as a Senator.

McCain demonstrated what a true leader does in times of crisis while Obama makes statements like "if they need me, I may come".

Another one of Obama's statements yesterday referred questioners to his campaign staff to get answers.

He evidently cannot make decisions on his own any more than he can make speeches without the teleprompter.

Here is another opinion about Obama's character written by Daniel Finkelstein and reposted here. Comment Central - Times Online - WBLG: What Sarah Palin tells us about Obama

Here are a few thoughts of my own on the lipstick on a pig moment (see this earlier post for the views of others).

First, demonstrating that McCain had used the same phrase before doesn't cut it.
The reason the pig idea popped into Barack Obama's mouth is that Palin had used the pitbull and lipstick joke in her speech. Can anyone doubt that?

So Obama was using it as a jibe against her. This was monumentally foolish. And this raises questions about Obama's character.

Second, the character question it raises is not that he is a sexist or that he lacks courtesy. It is that he folds under pressure.

Obama has looked amazingly uncomfortable under the pressure that Palin has put him under. He relies on his cool - it is a core part of his appeal. So he looks bad when he loses it. During the Hillary contest he rarely came under any pressure from the media. When he did he reacted badly.

So the problem caused by Palin isn't really about Palin - it's about Obama.

Which brings me to the third point. Obama cannot change how Palin is seen anywhere near as much as he thinks he can. He needs to work on how he is seen.

But,
as Jay Cost argues, he hasn't been disciplined enough to do this.

***So the question remains as to whether or not Obama can stand up under pressure when things aren't going as easy for him. As this financial crisis has shown with Obama's response, he is not ready to lead this country.

McCain's suggestion is nothing more than public relations. I dont know why we're trying to race through a $700 billion measure that will effect ALL of us for decades to come. No matter how many great economic minds are looking at the bail-out, throwing this together in 10 days is short sighted.

A quick infusion of cash, albeit billions, isnt going to change the economy. NEW leadership (not recycled leadership) is what this nation needs.

Your relentless conservative viewpoint and failure to look objectively at both sides obstruct any rational thoughts to the point where your opinions simply are not credible.

The fat rich republicans with their speculative trading, greedily passing out $250K mortgages to people making $50k per year, and the ever increasing theater of war led by the GOP machine consuming billions of dollars a week, making pretty much every nation in the world hostile towards us, if not physically, then definately economically hostile is causing most of this.
Fuel prices are outrageous because of the GOP and conservatives ideologies, food prices have skyrockets because of fuel prices, the average working joe american credit is maxed out just trying to keep up.
In reality NOTHING is going to fix the market until the market fixes itself, spending $700B is just adding to the deficit that we are leaving to our children.

It's tough for all you Obama supporters to finally see the truth that your candidate has no substance.

He is a candidate who rose to the top only because of charisma and media support, but he is not real smart and certainly no leader.

Remind me how many times he voted "present" rather than yea or nea.

His knowledge of the topics is poor and that is why he is taking 3 plus days just to prepare for a debate.

When you don't keep up with the information as you go along, last-minute cramming is your only hope.

It wasn't just the GOP with speculative trading and certainly not just republicans lending money.

Where is personal accountability for individuals asking for $250,000 mortgages on a $50,000 income.

It's the liberal democrats who continue to breed this type of entitlement mentality and is continually setting us up for failure.

No one knows if this bailout will work, but without doing something, we know the economy will further decline. These problems were created by lots of greedy people on all sides as well as lots of stupid individuals.

Now here's an example of a party's ideology affecting energy prices:

The current Republican regime has betrayed a major plank in the party for 8 years. Fiscal responsiblity and opposition to government intervention. Now we are to trust Senator McCain and his financial advisors(Phil and Wendy Gramm) to develop a program for the future. The time is up, the party is over. It's time for new blood.

The truth is, people and government have been living beyond their means. Time to pay up.

After watching the 60 minutes interviews, it was obvious that John McCain's knowledge on the economy is weak. He looked like a bumbling idiot. We've had one of those for eight years.

LOL!!! McOld's leadership was screwing up the deal that was ready to go. He's caused a revolt within the party!

Carville always said the best thing to do when your opponent is doing a crash and burn is to sit back and enjoy it. I'm enjoying watch McOld flail around very much while watching Obama's numbers move up!

Let's talk about decision failures.

"Mission accomplished"

"Good job, Brownie"

"Our economy is fundamentally sound"
