Flu shot delay

Television, radio, grocery stores and pharmacies have begun advertising for flu shots and it is the time of year everyone should consider receiving one.

It is extremely frustrating for many physicians because we have contacted three of our vendors and still have not received any of the vaccines. Many other offices also have not received their shipments. We had more than 200 phone calls in the past few days and are unsure what to tell our patients.

The vendor is telling us the one manufacturer has not received FDA approval yet on their shot and is withholding shipment until they receive it.

We are told there isn’t supposed to be a shortage but we have always received our shipments in early September in the past. You’d think that physician offices and hospitals should be the first to receive the available vaccines rather than the local grocery store.

I will have to disagree with you on that one. How many people do you think go to the grocery store. If the shots are there, they would more than likely take one. It would seem that you would not care where people receive their shots. Granted, if shots are taken at grocery stores, that cuts another source of income from your practice. Oh well!!!!!

As long as people are being vaccinated, does it really matter where they go? I guess that depends on your ultimate goal--whether it is serving your patients or padding your wallet.

What does one have to do to receive the shots at your office? Do they have to make an appointment or can they walk in and receive one. I received my shots at the Health Department last year. I believe the charge was $15.00.
I noticed an article in the newspaper tonight that a local Physician was offering the inhalant vaccine to several local schools for $30.00 has the cost increased or is that for the inhalant vaccine only? What is your charge for a Flu Shot?

I would prefer to get the flu shot at my doc's office, not at the grocery store. I agree with HB Physicians should receive the vaccines before your local grocery! Why would you bother having a Doctor if you are going to seek medical needs anywhere you can find it cheap? For me personal, I like my doctor and want to support his business.

Just wanted to let you know, we walked in Krogers this morning about 12:10 got our shots and was back in car at 12:14. A Nurse gave us our shots and we were on our way. Didn't have to call ahead or wait to be seen. Didn't have to pay if your on Medicare, just show card. Cheap or not works for me.
