The VA Mistake

Here is another perfect example of one of the government run programs in health care. 1,200 Gulf War Veterans Wrongly Told They Have ALS - Local News News Articles National News US News - FOXNews.com

How many disastrous examples do people need to understand the Government cannot run anything more efficiently than the private sector? Yes, coding mistakes happen, but not usually on a scale quite like this.

Hopefully they didn’t send these 1200 vets the end of life workbook to go through with their families.

Why are the malpractice attorneys not suing for wrongful diagnosis and pain and emotional suffering. Could it be because you cannot sue the VA system?

Let me really get folks upset. There should be no VA system.
In years past military service was by the draft. It was a form of slavery. You were forced to provide your services against your will and at a price that was undervalued. "Benefits" were an attempt to compensate for the underpaid time.
Today's service is a volentary contract, and we are better off for that. Compensation however is woefully undervalued, except at the entry level before training has been given and worth has been established. It is difficult to assign a value to support active duty gets in housing, meals, clothing etc. compared to the outside but I'm sure someone can( or has).
The point is pay should be sufficient to allow saving and investing for one's future after service like any other job. Medical care for active duty illness/injury and disability are one thing, but why continuing after the job. I'm not advocating abandoning disabled vet's from duty related injuries, but legacy costs are a big part of the failure of private industry like the auto and airline industry and the USPS.
The VA system, from medical services and social services and education benefits is not necessary if pay would be increased and men and women were responsible for their own futures after active duty.

Now, that should get some action on your blog!

Probably not, since you can sue the VA.

Having worked at the VA before I feel that my comment is not unfair. Why not just give vets the option to free care at a regular hospital that also takes care of indigents. The hospitals can be reimbursed by the government or given some sort of incentive to treat them. I believe this would be a much cheaper and efficient way to treat those who served the country.

Although anyone and any entity can be sued, VA lawsuits are much more rare and less frequently successful because of the government involvement.

So the question that was asked was done to get people to think about having more government run medical systems.

How many people sue medicaid or Medicare compared with lawsuits against all of the private insurers. The reality is that government entities have a much less incidence of being sued when it comes to medical issues.
