New Board Members

The County Commissioners met recently and have appointed new members to the Board of Trustees for Floyd Memorial Hospital.

There were four positions up for reappointment. Two were the added positions that increased the number of Board members from seven to nine last year. These positions were held by Jerrol Miles and Guy Wall. They were both reappointed to their positions.

The two other board members that had been serving for the past 4 years were Mame Garner and David Atkins. Neither of these individuals was reappointed to a second term.

They were replaced with Mark McCormick and Bill Smith.

These two individuals add a finance background and a legal background to the current board makeup.

Praise the Lord, maybe things are finally changing.

I heard there was some controversy over not reappointing those two individuals.

Mr. Frieberger is not use to being a minority member of the committee and not being able to appoint his cronies.

HB, your remarks are very bland, unlike you.

Is there more to the story????????

Hey HB, bet ole Mame Garner is not saying much now that she has been booted from the board.

Guess the CEO's cronies are finally being kicked out along with him.

To reinforce the last anonymous post;

AMEN!!!!!!!

Do either of the new appointees do any business for or with the hospital? One would hope that folks wouldn't be appointed to the board if they have potential conflicting business dealings with the hospital that earn them money...

Is Bill Smith the same Bill Smith who was the attorney for Clark Memorial Hospital for many, many, many years? My experience with Bill...if it is the same...was that he is not a person to stir trouble. He is one who appreciates working within the system. He certainly has a knowledge of the hospital industry. That having been said, he impresses me as someone who is solid...but not a shaker and mover. But then not everyone can be and maybe that is what we need now. Not everyone is an indian chief.

Who is Mark McMormick? You said he has a finance background. Can you tell us a little about him?

Seems odd that an attorney for Clark Hospital would be appointed to the board at Floyd. Fox in the henhouse and all that.

Isn't he the lawyer who does their collection work?

It just sounds like we are getting a better rounded board.

I know nothing about Mr. McCormick, but Mr. Smith is a good addition to Floyd's board. Yes, he has been affiliated with Clark Memorial for a number years, representing them as their attorney. But my experience with Mr. Smith has all been positive. He has integrity, he is intelligent, and he certainly knows Indiana hospital law. I am glad to see him on the board.

There are two attorneys named Bill Smith. One was the long-time attorney for Clark Memorial Hospital. He recently retired from private practice in Jeffersonville; he has been a New Albany resident for years.

The other Bill Smith--the one who does business and collection work--is a partner at the firm of Kightlinger & Gray in New Albany.

I'm curious as to which Bill Smith is now on the board.

Marc McCormick is a CPA. He's a partner at the Melhiser, Endres, Tucker CPAs accounting firm. It's on Elm St in NA just past the post office and robt e lee. He's probably in his late forties/early fifties, long-time NA resident, good, reputable man--I think a good addition to the board.
