New Chairman

In a surprise move to some, the Board of Trustees elected a new Chairman for 2007. He is one of the newly appointed Board members and not one of the existing members on the board.

The newly elected Chairman is Jerrol Miles who was voted in by a majority of the members. with a 5:4 split.
He gave a wonderful acceptance speech and spoke of his qualifications and long tenure on many other boards as well as in the banking industry. He has served on the Hospital Foundation Board and has dealt with many healthcare entities over his years of service.
The other candidate who received votes for the Chair position was Ms. Mame Garner who is currently beginning her 4th year on the Board. She along with Mr. David Atkins will both be up for reappointment at the end of this year.
Mr. Don Gibbons was voted in as vice-chairman, Mrs. Kay Garry as secretary, and Mr. Keith Megraw recieved the other elected position.
We wish all of our newly elected members a good and productive year.

Anonymous 8:45 asks a good question. What will this board have to do to avoid being characterized by you as: "political cronies, personal friends or pressured appointments from the CEO" and having "a lackadaisical attitude...and the same good-ol-boy attitude"?

I know they will all want to please you, so what is that you expect them to do to retain your confidence? Can they do it without getting rid of the CEO you dislike so much?

"We wish all of our newly elected members a good and productive year."

So, what do you wish for those you did not take out to dinner?

Why aren't you answering Diogenes questions? What is your preferred agenda for the board. You have been very outspoken in the past so why the sudden silence?

My congratulations to Mr. Miles. I have heard many good things about him. As he said in his acceptance speech, he is very experienced having served on various other boards.

However, all that being said, I am compelled to say that I have some concern. Not all boards are the same. The hospital board cries for not only board experience of its chairman, but it demands an understanding of the health care industry as well. I truly hope Mr. Miles has not been placed into a position destined to cause doom to his reputation.

Good luck, Mr. Miles. May success guide you. There is a BIG difference between serving on the Foundation board and serving as Chairman of the Hospital Board of Trustees.

OMG, I hope we are not going to start venting on Mr. Miles now. Lets give the poor man a chance,
maybe he means that he understands that by sitting in a Boardroom you have to look at all issues with objectivity and not bend to pressure from one side over another.

I think the cartoon is rather insulting to the Board Members.
But on the other hands it does show someone with a big mouth.
