Empty Nest Syndrome

How many parents look forward to the empty nest syndrome? Granted, it is tough to send them off and begin facing life’s challenges without our ever-vigilant oversight, but most of us do look forward to this new phase in our lives.

How many times do our expectations really get met? Recent statistics show that nearly 60 percent of college graduates move back home with their parents at some point after finishing school. About a third of those stay for more than a year according the survey by Experience, a career services provider.

We have now labeled these graduates, "boomerang kids".
Seventy-five percent of those  moving home do so  right after graduation and few have to contribute to the household. The survey showed that 92 percent don't have to pay utilities, 85 percent don't pay rent, and 74 percent don't pay for groceries.

Is this the empty nest syndrome we all dreamed of?

There have been several times lately when my husband and I have been looking longingly toward those empty nest days : )

On a serious note, why is it that so many parents allow adult children to move back in, but don't require them to help with expenses, tasks, etc.? It's like crippling them so that they cannot function on their own in the world. Most parents want what's best for their children, so I don't understand this phenomenon.

Since you believe in putting everything out in the open, when are you going to answer these questions that were put to you?

RE: "Overwhelming support by the Medical Staff"

Did anyone else run for the position? What was the vote? Did all of the medical staff vote and, if not, what percentage did?

And, you wrote: "The Board will once again get a more complete assessment and a much less filtered information stream." So, are you saying that the current chief and vice-chief of staff have not done their jobs properly?"

xxxI understand that one of our recently appointed public officials in New Albany is a 40+ year old boomerang kid still living with his Mom.

anonymous,

you are unbelievable. Dr. Steve Pahner (an Emergency Room doctor) ran against HB. They did not announce the total votes but everyone that attended got to vote. You have to be on the active medical staff to vote.

What is your problem? Who in administration are you? Since you won't say, we'll just refer to you as "Ralph"

No casual reader has this much vitriol towards HB. You have something personal going on.

By the way, todays blog is excellent. We baby our kids way too much and New Alb. annie is right with her not understanding why we do what we do.

An HB doesn't? His personal grudge/vendetta/agenda has been obvious since January 2006 when he wasn't on the board.

Are we now to believe since he won an election, that he's going to be:

A level-headed representative of his peers/the medical staff?

Arrive at decisons by consensus?

Have a committee meeting without bullying and sulking?

Display an ability to listen and discuss both sides of an issue?

Work for the good of the organization as a whole, not just what the doctors want?

Encourage peers to support the hospital and their employees by participating in hospital programs and commitees?

Provide guidance, support, mentorship, and honest feedback to his peers where issues of compliance are concerned?

I have seen "Ralph" display these skill sets - does Dan?

We will see - the next year will be telling.

Until then, I say GIVE ME A BREAK!
