The Democratic Dilemma
The Hollywood strike that has been going on for some time now is being relatively subdued in the media and in the democratic campaign talks. If this corporate entity was any other private business, you can bet the democratic front runners would be condemning the corporate entity unrelentingly.
So why the difference?
Could it be that the Democrat front-runners are corrupted by big-corporate money and barely standing by a union composed of upper-middle-class liberal writers. Does this not represent a giant income disparity and economic unfairness that the democrats usually thrust themselves on to point out the injustice? But for now, they are being extremely quiet and reserved in their remarks.
Aren’t these writers part of the overclass in the Democrats' vision of the "two Americas."?
These writers are guaranteed a minimum of $106,000 for a screenplay; and the TV networks must pay at least $20,956 for a 22-minute sitcom script and $30,823 for a 44-minute show.
In reality, these numbers are usually doubled since the writer gets a large payoff for the first rerun. The studios and networks report that the average working writer makes $200,000 a year; the average worker in Los Angeles County makes $52,572.
So for now, the democrats are struggling between standing up for unions or going against their sugar-daddy in corporate Hollywood.
Don’t you just feel sorry for the predicament they are in?

PAAALEEESEEE. This is beneath you, Dan. It is trivial material to use as an argument of how "bad" those awful Democrats are. Sounds like grade school level of arguing.
Be careful how you present your arguments to avoid sounding petty. It could cause some people to question the legitimacy of other arguments. This smacks of knit-picking.
Just a suggestion.
I believe the strike is (partly) about the fact that writers are not paid for DVDs and other electronic media.
Since that is the direction the industry is headed, they fear their earnings could be greatly diminished in the future.
It seems analogous to insurance companies and physicians. Of course, you would have a different blog entry for that case, despite the fact that many physicians earn more than your "average working writer."
For the record, I have no trouble with people working hard and earning a nice living. Let's just be careful we don't apply a double standard.
Dan, do you think that 1SI should support a radical right wing organization like ROCK? You've been suspiciously silent on this issue, and I'm in desperate need of material.
First off, how do you conclude they are a "radical right wing organization"?
Does just having Christian values label them in your mind.
Where is the tolerance?
Is this not bigotry on your part?
Their goal is better communities and families. That seems to be an admirable goal.
What do anti-abortion, anti-stem cell research and anti-gay marriage planks have to do with economic development?
Does not ROCK have all three as part of the agenda? A cursory examination of the web site certainly seems to suggest so.
Must we then sign on to these in order to have (ahem) "good" jobs?
So you always agree with 100% of every organization's viewpoints that you support.
If this is true, then I doubt you are supporting many organizations.
1SI did support ROCK in their stance against pornography because it has significant implications on economic development.
I do not recall 1SI outwardly supporting the other items.
If there is another organization standing up against pornography, I am sure they would consider standing behind them as well, as it does effect the growth of the economy

I didn't mention the word Christian. You did. Apart from that, you'll recall that my question was this:
What do anti-abortion, anti-stem cell research and anti-gay marriage planks have to do with economic development?
Don't forget that I watched the film on ROCK's website and turned past page one. I'm suggesting that (a) ROCK's ultimate ambitions aren't confined to the "bad porno" template, and (b) 1SI's endorsement of the marquee came sans consideration of the whole ROCK picture.
1SI seeks de facto establishment as the region's economic development authority. I fail to see how this enshrinement includes the authority to determine the "proper" cultural and religious viewpoints.
